Creating Daylight: Luther Student Co-Founds Faciity for Children in War-Torn Kenya
by Tracy Behrendt, Correspondent
As far as friends go, Michael Kimpur and Nathan Roberts couldn't be more different.
Kimpur's stories of nomadic life in Kenya and his path to Bethel opened Roberts' eyes to children with lives very different from his own—ones without safety, homes or free education...
"That, for me, really brought it full circle," Roberts said. "Here I was living with a World Vision child. I realized that the way I had treated poverty and people who had really big needs was as a
bank. I give money to some (organization), they give it to (those with needs), and they write me a letter back. But when I met Michael, I realized that I had the opportunity to make a deeper face-to-face connection." Read Full Article

Growing Friendships in the U.S.
from Kenyan Director Michael Kimpur
I arrived in Minnesota on October the 13th with the goal of thanking in person the people who have been helping
us out with the Daylight Center and School work in Pokot, Kenya. also wanted to establish new connections and build
relationships, and fundraise for the first dormitory building to shelter kids at Daylight. Two months down the road, I
realize the Lord has been faithful. I have visited with so many people and groups...
To Kenya and Back Again Reflections on My Journey
by Joyce Schwartz
Daylight was such a joy to visit. I had so much fun with the children. I handed out stickers. We played
with balloons and ate candy and had a wonderful time together. I took pictures and videos of the kids using a
digital camera and loved watching their faces when I played back the video for them to see themselves...

Summer at Daylight
from Kenyan Director Michael Kimpur
Daylight Children’s Center & School is an inevitable response to the plight of many disadvantaged kids from the Pokot and the neighboring nomadic pastoral communities whose single social challenge happens to be poverty occasioned and orchestrated by cattle-rustling. Cattle-rustling or in other words “cowjacking” is somewhat low key warfare that pities the Pokot against the neighboring nomadic communities. In the ensuing struggle for cows, violent encounters in the form of raids and counter-raids are staged by these warring communities against each other. As a result, there is a heavy loss and the women and kids are particularly hit hard the most...
Michael’s Story from Herds boy to Daylight Director
by Andrew Ulasich
Most kids in Michael’s community see the beginning of this story: the diseases, the hunger, the tribal conflict. Most do not have the string of opportunities that Michael received. For that, Michael is grateful. He recognizes his responsibility and has chosen to serve his people. Amidst the election violence of 2008, Michael returned to Kenya, and went back to Pokot. “We found kids there who had no one to care for them. So we cared for them,” Michael explains...
